Have a Happy and Safe July Fourth Holiday

July, and some of the hottest weather of the summer season is nearly upon us. This weekend will also be the one leading up to July 4th (on a Tuesday this year). Many folks will be taking long holiday weekends. Whether you are going to the beach or a picnic this weekend, or any other of the myriad outdoor festivities leading up to next week’s giant fireworks displays— be safe. And keep cool.

High temperatures are one of the biggest causes of weather related death. [According to statistics from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), from 1999 to 2010 there was an average of 618 heat-exposure related deaths per year in the U.S..]  Almost 70% of those deaths were among males.

Heat stroke, heat exhaustion, cramps, sunburn and rash are the most common complaints resulting from being exposed to high temperatures. So take care over this summer holiday and don’t become a statistic. Use sunscreen and limit exposure to the sun, particularly through the midday hours. Stay hydrated. There can never be too many reminders to drink plenty of water, especially if you are out in the heat. If you find yourself reacting adversely to heat exposure, find shade, apply ice or cool compresses, or seek shelter indoors.

Our air conditioners are going to be working as hard as many people are playing in these next days and weeks. If you have any problems with your HVAC unit, remember to call or contact  D.G. Meyer Inc. for service.
